Sandwich monster, in the making

Here’s how I turn a sketch into separations for screen printing.

First, I make a sketch:sandwich1

In my mind, I start separating out what color I want each element to be. In this case, I want to make a 2-color print so everything but the monster will be one color.

Then I lay a piece of acetate over the sketch, use a 0.6 thick Rapidograph pen, and trace over everything but the monster.

Then, I lay another piece of acetate on top of that one and fill in the color for the monster.

Now, we’re ready to print the Sandwich Monster!
